The 100km event is designed for people who want to do the full Monty and experience all that the Great Lakes Trials have to offer. It starts at Waihaha carpark on the Western shores of the lake. Runners then travel through private farmland (access is only available for this event), do a gnarly section of gravel and tarseal bashing before heading onto the airstrip and down on to the wonderful Great Lakes K2K and W2K trails to the finishline at Whakaipo.

Start time: 6am at Waihaha carpark on Western Bays Road, State Highway 32
Race Briefing: The race briefing for the 100km event (including relay teams) will be held on Friday 6.00pm at the Wairakei Resort Taupo. Please ensure you attend this briefing as it is compulsory! At the briefing we will go over all the logistics of the event and well as cover need the all important health and safety and medical aspects of the event.
Registration: Is available on Friday 13 October at the Wairakei Resort Taupo between 4pm and 9 pm. All 100 km runners must weigh in at registration and at the finishline.
Bus timetable: A bus leaves from the Taupo isite at 3.50am sharp and drives to the 100km start via the finish at Whakaipo Bay where it picks up other 100km runners and then continues onto the 100km start. Only use this bus if you have arranged for someone to collect you at the finish or have alternative transport home after the race.
The bus leaves Whakaipo Bay at 4.30am sharp and takes runners to the start of the 100km at the Waihaha Bridge. Please note this is a good one hour drive.

The Aid Stations are stocked with lollies, gingernuts, chips, pretzels, sandwiches (peanut butter or vegemite) bananas and Oranges, water, electrolyte drink and coke. Fluid will be available in cups and water containers to enable competitors to fill up drink bottles or bladders. Aid stations are clearly marked on the course maps. (distances approx)
All 100 km runners will need to have a light for the final 24k leg from Kinloch to Whakaipo Bay if they leave the Kinloch Hall after 2:30pm. So either have lights on you, or put your light in your last drop bag for pick up at Kinloch.
Cut off times:
- 12pm at the Hingarae Road end
- 3pm at the Airstrip Whangamata road
- 7pm at the Kinloch Hall
You do not need a support crew for this event. Dropbags are available for all solo runners.

Pacers: We encourage 100km entrants to have a pacer on the last section from Kinloch to the finish at Whakaipo Bay. Please get your pacers to register online through our registration page.
Spectators: Spectators can see their runners/walkers at the Waihaha Road end, Hingarae road end, Puketapu Road, Whangamata road (airstrip), and Kinloch Those active spectators who want to cheer on their runners near the finish should meet them at the style at the end of the gravel road at the end of Whakaipo bay and run along the road to the finish with them.
Driving instructions from Taupo to the 100km race start at Waihaha Bridge(allow 45 mins to 1 hour from Taupo) Head out of Taupo to the Thermal Explorer Highway go across the control gate bridge and head up the hill for 1km. Turn left into Poihipi Road, travel along Poihipi Road for approx 27.1 km then turn left into Marotiri Road travel along Marotiri Road for approx 5km. Turn left into SH32 travel approx 24 km along SH32 until you reach the Waihaha bridge and the start of the Waihaha section of the Great Lake Trail.

Please ensure you are aware of the cut-off times, which are:
- 12pm: Hingarae Road end (68.5k remaining )
- 3pm: At the airstrip on Whangamata Road (50.9k remaining)
- 7pm: Kinloch Domain for 100km runners (24k remaining)
Because of the remote nature of the trails, these will be strictly enforced for your safety.
